Speak to Connect is what my blog is all about. Someone once said that, when it comes to public speaking, there’s a huge gap between the speaker and the audience, and it’s the speaker’s job to build a bridge between the two. That is, it’s the speaker’s role to Speak to Connect and to make that difference.
I attended the semi-finals of the Toastmasters World Championship of Public Speaking in Las Vegas in 2011.
One of the semi-finals was held in a spacious hall where the finals were to be held the next day. That is, it was a big stage in a large hall, and not too many people there who were spread out. It wasn’t an ideal situation to connect with the audience. Some of the contestants made that stage feel large and empty. However, somehow the better speakers seemed to fill that stage and that room. I think it was because they connected with the audience and transported us into their world. They built that bridge, we crossed it, and we were on board for the ride
When you’re speaking, you won’t be heard or remembered unless you connect with your listeners. This blog site aims to post articles, from time to time, to help you make that connection.
Speak to Connect, to make that Difference.
